January has come and gone, and February is basically over, it is not too late in the year to start making plans to check something off the ol' bucket list! None of us are getting any younger and no one is guaranteed tomorrow, so why not! Live life while you still can. :)
This year we will be checking a few backlist experiences off of our list!
1. Mardi Gras in New Orleans
We have always wanted to go to New Orleans to take in the culture and of course the food!! We figured Mardi Gras would be a unique experience to go for. It is like a 2 for 1 special on bucket list items! We use birthday or other special occasions as an excuse to travel. This time we will be celebrating a birthday! Soooo many reasons to go to Mardi Gras this month!😊😂
Being such a popular event, we planned months ago to avoid paying to much for accommodations or worse, or not finding a flight or hotel to stay in. We found a very reasonable non-stop flight on skipplagged this time around and a hotel near the oh so popular Bourbon St. but, not too close so when it is time for bed we can actually sleep without all the noise outside our window. Walking distance works perfectly so no need to worry about taxis or shared rides.
My brother went to New Orleans for a bachelor party a few years ago and he suggested any time you are hungry to make sure to head to your food destination well ahead of time. There is always a wait, which I have read many times. I will let you know after we get back how the trip goes!
2. Olympics
I always say I want to go to the Olympics and ALWAYS say I'll catch the next one. I only do this because I have other trips planned during the time or it is not a good time financially due to the other trips planned. This summer Olympics, I have been waiting for eagerly. I LOVE Japan so a great excuse to catch this one. Tickets can still be found but you have to put in the research and be ok with spending a little bit of money. I am hoping the Coronavirus doesn't put a damper on this one. Good thing I bought insurance on this flight. It was expensive and I rarely do even though I should buy insurance. It is always a gamble not to buy it.
3. Oktoberfest
This one is still not booked but a tentative itinerary has been made and I hope for it to be finalized soon. Although I have been to Oktoberfest in my home city and other cities, I would like to go to the REAL one in Munich. September 19th to October 4th are the dates this year. Fingers crossed, I can check that one off the bucket list.
