Berlin, the Hipsterest Place on Earth.

Explore Unique Parts of Berlin

I have been to Germany before but never to Berlin, and it is by far one of my favorite cities in all of Europe. Not only do they have great beer, pretzels, and buildings, but the amount of activities for a hipster crowd or just anyone that just loves to have fun is impressive. The beer and the sites are a must see and a given. The mugs of beer one can find don't compare to other parts of the world and the

The hipster city is not limited to just to young hipsters, it is great for all ages that can appreciate creativity and vintage/nostalgic goods.

Out of everything I did in Berlin the "Photoautomat" was by for the best find I came across. For those of you that love black and white photography, the analog kind, you will LOVE ❤️ that you can find photo booths that actually gives you a silver gelatin print of your snaps. I will cherish this 2€ gem forever!

Along with awesome photo booths there are second hand vintage shops that can supply any article of clothing for any of your hipster needs. I felt like I had walked back in time to the late 80s early 90s.

If you enjoy some outdoor shopping and bargaining make your way to the flea market. The largest hipster flea market I have ever seen. It is called Flohmarkt Mauerpark and its just a short walk from the metro (M10-redline) station of Wolliner Str. This place has great second hands items, hand crafted items, art, vintage stuff, and great food and beer stands. We were lucky to be there on a Sunday and catch Karaoke. The picture above on the left is a sample of the crowd gathered to listen to all karaoke enthusiasts, it is like having your own personal concert.

The picture of the currywurst says it all. Delicious! Cannot go wrong spending an afternoon here.

Afternoon of site seeing

Spend an afternoon visiting the site. The metro makes it easy to get around town and get a good amount of exploring in in a single afternoon.

To the right is a picture of the Berliner Fernsehturm aka Berlin TV Tower.

An adult ticket cost about €13 (2017) and you can take the lift/elevator all the way to the top to get a 360 view of Berlin. While you are up there grab a beer cocktail at the top to make the experience last a little longer. There is also a restaurant at the top but make sure you book well in advance in order to get a spot.

Take the metro to Alexanderplatz station, it is in a central area of Berlin and very easy to get to from any direction. You can't miss it!

Berlin Wall

East Side Gallery or Berliner Mauer East Side Gallery is a must when going to Berlin.

The gallery is a part of the Berlin Wall that was transformed into an international memorial for freedom. It is located near the center of Berlin and is located on the part of the wall that was once where the wall closed off West Berlin.

Here you can spend about 40 minutes to an hour taking in the art of all the talented artists that have contributed to the gallery. Take the S line to Berlin Warschauer StraBe Station, from there it is a 7minute walk.

Berlin Wall Memorial

The memorial is the last piece of the Berlin Wall situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse. It contains the preserved grounds behind it that allows for visitors to see how it may have looked and how the border developed in the end of the 80s.

As one can imagine you get a bit of an eerie feeling reading the history behind the wall while standing next to the site but it serves as a bit of a wake up call allowing you to feel the reality of the past.

From the M10 metro line get off on stop Gedenkstatte Berliner Mauer, from there it is a 2 minute walk to the memorial.

Heckescher Markt

Weinhenstephaner

This area is a great place for nightlife. You can catch a bite and some live music at the same time no matter where you decide to dine. It consists of a little square with restaurants, cafes, and bars. A perfect place to socialize and people watch. The food and beer were delicious and very satisfying. We bought a piece of street art to add to our collection for super cheap (€5) off of a local artists. It is also very easy to get to, there is a metro stop actually named Hechescher Markt on one end the square.

Dining in the Dark at Unsicht-Bar

On our last night we decided to splurge a little and go to a fancy dinner in the dark. All I can say is that it was well worth the experience. Removing one of your senses really enhances the taste of the food as well as your hearing. Never have experienced anything like it. You can taste the "details" of each course, not to mention you get plenty of food for the money. If you decide to try out this place while in Berlin be sure to make reservations a good while ahead of time and BRING CASH! We were not aware that it was cash only restaurant, we may have missed it somewhere or forgotten, but luckily we had some emergency cash on us.

As you can imagine there is a lot to do around Berlin but these are a good place to start if you only have a couple of days to sample the city. Let us know you have any questions about any of these places or activities, or anything other questions we might be able to help you with. We love to receive emails and help with anything we can while you plan your travels! :)
